LET IT GO…..!

What to do when you don’t know what to do.

This sounds like one of those catchy phrases adept motivational speakers use to capture the mental and consequently emotional attention of avid readers (of whom I once was) who are constantly looking for answers in this world full of endless  unanswered queries. Well, if you thought of this post in those lines, I am gravely sorry to disappoint you since you will definitely not find the 7-step-guide here.

Great. Now that that’s off the table, let’s go back to the matter at hand.

What to do when you don’t know what to do?

It might be a school or work assignment, a financial problem, an untamable family fued, mid-life /quater-life crisis, a general disappointment in life or maybe just a dilemma or trilemma that has got you wanting to pull your hair out. So, what do you do about it?

Simple. Let it go…

“Well, Lavisa, how does letting go help me? “, you may curiously or better yet disdainfully ask. But what else can you do that will meaningfully remedy the situation, that you haven’t already done?

If you can’t do anything else to help the situation then by all means, do nothing and let it go.
So simple yet extremely hard.

If there is something that is taxing in this world, then it definitely is learning how to let go. Commencing the journey of unlearning how to hold on is by far the toughest thing one could ever do. Ever!
All your life, you’ve been perfecting the art and skill of being independent of others and thus reliant on yourself.

Letting go makes you feel feeble, frail, and fragile. Even helpless if I might add.

It reduces you to a mere Saul before Goliath! You just feel defeated before even beginning.

Well, that is just how it’s meant to be. Crazy huh?!

The ultimate goal of letting go is raising your white flag. Surrendering.

Don’t like the sound of that?  Neither did I.

Like, who in their right minds would want to feel helpless and bear the burden of feeling like a failure? I am sure every one of us, in a unique sense, has the conviction that we can and will conquer the world, and conquerors never,  ever throw in the towel. Or so we presume.

But what do you do when you come face to face with a foe, outside your jurisdiction? One with mightier arsenal? One that can whisk you away with a single huff? There’s only one thing to do. You succumb!

You dare not raise a finger against them in the name of waging war, since you are directionless as well as defenceless.
Here is a disclaimer though. In as much as I have been talking about giving in, it actually matters who you let go to. To whom are you surrendering to?

Furthermore, I need to clarify that, as you would have noticed, my answer was incomplete.

So, here’s the full answer I’d give you:
Let it go…..give it to your God!

The good news is that believing in a higher authority, God, is more advantageous than harmful. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you”… “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and future”

I bet this makes my answer a bit more feasible.
Your incapablity in your situation does not nullify the fact that work has to be done, even when you are at loggerheads on what to do concerning a certain unavoidable circumstance. Letting go, acknowledges to God that you are unable to handle the situation and implies that you’ve given Him the leeway to take charge. ‘Cause He definitely can handle it. And He wants to handle it for you, imagine that. He even makes it better by saying in 2nd Corinthians 12:9a … “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness”..

So whether your “foe” is a financial crisis, terminal illness, a family emergency, a personal injury or a broken heart, or whatever it is that is currently bugging you in life and drawing all your attention from your purpose and from enjoying this wonderful precious life, Let it go. Give it to your God.

He just needs you to say, “Here’s my heart Lord” or “Take charge of this situation” or even “Have your way Lord”.
Nothing is too hard or too small or too insignificant for Him to handle. In fact He asks us to go to Him as we are….with all our baggage and troubles. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly, beyond what we could ask or think of. He is mightier, bigger than everything.

PS: Listen to the song *Bigger* by Jekalynn Karr, you’ll understand what I mean

Furthermore, the letting go doesn’t ultimately have to be only when you feel defeated. Proverbs 3:5-6 Says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall make your paths straight.

You can allow God to take over in all your affairs, all your ways – always. To lead and guide you in all your involvements. After all we base our plans on anticipated success yet He promises that He already has plans to prosper us.

That’s my encouragement to us all.

Breathe.

Smile.

Let it go!
